A Note: I very much dislike math, calculations and fiddling with averages or ratios. Please forgive any glaring mistakes.
In the last post we broke down some fairly basic combat mechanics. Now let’s explore the related topics of Health and Damage.
Health at Generation
Starting Health is calculated as: 20 + Body (+ Lineage)
Advancement
For each level of Fortitude the character receives 1D6 + Lineage.
Health advancement is limited by the maximum level of Fortitude.
Maximum
This sets the potential maximum health at 20 (base) +36 (max 6d6) +18 (Max Lineage Modifier) = 74
Average
Allowing for average rolls of 3 on the 1d6, a more realistic total might be 56
Applying Damage
In this iteration of our rules, Damage is as simple as the number of successes rolled with the Attack Pool.
Based on the numbers above and the variable of different dice pool sizes, each rolled die has a 33% chance to inflict damage.
Success probability by dice pool size
| Difficulty | Threshold | 6D Pool | 9D Pool | 12D Pool |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 1 success | 95% | 99% | 99%+ |
| Standard | 2 successes | 75% | 90% | 97% |
| Difficult | 3 successes | 45% | 65% | 85% |
| Hard | 4 successes | 20% | 40% | 65% |
| Epic | 5+ successes | 8% | 20% | 45% |
The next post will explore Lineages. Who your character is, where they came from and how that impacts character generation.
