The original Nagaji were the result of dark magic twisting either Vishkanya or Lizardfolk young. Vishkanya bear living young while Lizardfolk lay clutches of eggs. Depending on the base creature a Nagaji can have drastically different appearance and abilities.
Viskanya based Nagaji were typically females. Standing as tall as a human but more slender these creatures are adept shadow warriors and sinister spellcasters. These Nagaji are excellent solo operators as spys and assassins.
Lizardfolk based Nagaji tend to be hulking brutes. Typically standing a head taller than the average human these creatures embody their savage ancestry with a magically enhanced innate cunning. These Nagaji are the rank and file warrior, clan leader and work well in groups like war and hunting parties.
Since the fall of the Naga Empire Nagaji have been breeding true, mixing both their ancestral heritages. This has lead to a more uniform appearance and normalized innate abilities.
Nagaji are long lived. The progenitors of the race were imbued with regenerative abilities by their masters and after the fall of their Emperors many began long bouts of hibernation leap frogging through the ages. Of the few verified encounters it is known that these progenitors can grow to great size and embody powerful, dark magic. These creatures are the source of Nagaji nightmare tales to their young.
The natural lifespan of a Nagaji is triple that of a human. A Progenitor's lifespan is unknown.
The Nagaji are a race of ophidian humanoids with scaled skin. Like serpents, they have forked tongues and lidless eyes, giving them an unblinking gaze that most other races find unnerving.
Their physical forms are otherwise humanlike, height and build being comparable to the average human. Male Nagaji tend to be slightly larger than females. Females tend to be more limber and lithe.
Nagaji often inspire awe and fear among other humanoids, as much for their mysterious ancestry as for their talent for both swords and magic.
Nagaji served the Naga Imperium as soldiers, laborers and artisan. They once enforced their serpentine ruler's influence across large swaths of territory. Unwavering loyalty to their rulers allowed the Imperial Naga to become distracted in their quest for darker power while their enemies sought an equivalent power to provide a path to their destruction.
In the fall of the Imperium the Nagaji forces broke against the combined fury of the lizardfolk and Bast'et forces. All that remains of the Imperium is a small peninsula of deep jungle. Lost are the great monuments and sparkling cities. The remaining Nagaji are still fierce warriors and defend their territory against all intruders.
The Nagaji are wary of any outside cultures often to a fault. Striking fast and hard like a coiled serpent. Most other cultures steer wide of Nagaji territory.
Bast'et and Lizardfolk are ancestral enemies and are attacked on sight. All other cultures are potential meals at best.
Nagaji are often brutal, chaotic and unpredictable in their interactions with other culture.
Nagaji understand strength and respect power. They still revere the Imperial Naga as their deities. This is part of their being. Though the naga are no longer physically present in Andrus, forgotten ruins and monuments keep the faith alive.
Rare outside their deep jungle home Nagaji can be found working as bodyguards and mercenaries for powerful individuals. Their loyalties bought with gold and the promise of violence.
Nagaji begin play speaking Common and Draconic. Nagaji with high Intelligence scores can choose from any existing language.
