History [World of Andrus]

Site Tools

Andrus was first populated by three cold blooded races. The most powerful progenitor races were the Naga and Medusa. The most populace but less civilized were the Lizardfolk.

Andrus had two significant progenitor races that balanced and shaped the early history of the primal world.

First, in Upper Andrus, the Naga of Andrus rose to prominence after learning how to manipulate dark energies. They created the first Nagaji from Lizardfolk and Vishkanya captives. Royal Naga are eternal and grow in power and size much like dragons of the current age. Only degenerate descendants still secret away in deep forests and swamps. Their power is just a pale shadow of the Imperium's at its height but is still dark and insidious.

Second, the Medusa of Andrus rose to prominence on Lower Andrus building a Shining Kingdom in the steamy jungles and trackless swamps. The Medusa are served directly by their mortal descendants, the Vishkanya. No other living being has seen an actual Medusa in hundreds of years.

Royal Naga and Medusa Matriarchs are truly immortal and command power to be expected of such status. No known Royal Naga remain active but it is possible one or more may lay in hibernation awaiting some unknown signal to return to the world.

Finally, we have the Lizardfolk of Andrus. The Lizardfolk remain the highest population scalykind on Andrus. They are determined explorers and prolific colonists. They revere the Medusa and revile the Naga because of their roles in the savage culture's development. In Lower Andrus Lizardfolk tithe to the Medusa as benevolent rulers while in Upper Andrus the Naga subjugated all other sentient creatures to their malevolent rule.

Upper Andrus

  • The Naga and Bast'et are native to Upper Andrus.
  • Lizardfolk arrived later from the south seeking more nesting grounds to settle.
  • The Vishkanya establish an enclave to assist the Lizardfolk in their battle against the Naga.
  • Lizardfolk, having migrated from Lower Andrus, were captured and enslaved by the Naga Imperium.
  • The Naga create the Nagaji as a servitor race and begin further expanding their Dark Empire.
  • The Vishkanya provide the Lizardfolk with advanced weaponry and magical assistance to fight the Naga Imperium.
  • The Naga Imperium is defeated. The Lizardfolk and Bast'et are freed.
  • The Bast'et prides begin roaming the area currently known as the Pridelands.
  • Tauran settlements appear in the Northern reaches of the great mountain range.
  • Waer quietly enter Andrus scouting Andrus on behalf of the Fae.
  • Elemental gates open and the Fae arrive in Upper Andrus.

Lower Andrus

  • A more refined Lizardfolk culture rose to power on this continent dominating the north west coastal jungles.
  • On the north eastern shores the Vishkanya and their Medusa Matriarchs rule in their Shining Kingdom.
  • A number of Khemir Fae traveled to this continent seeking a land to call their own.
  • A breach between the plane of shadow and Andrus appeared beneath the south eastern mountains.
  • Another dark culture, drawn by the lure of primal life force, emerged from the Shadow Breach; Ghouls.
  • The Khemir Fae and Ghouls established a dark alliance and built a kingdom around the Shadow Breach.
  • This Shadow Kingdom is also populated by Dark Folk that serve their Khemir Fae and Ghoul masters.

General History

  • How far back are there records or tales of historical events?

The scaly natives of Andrus have kept oral records and various family lineages for many thousands of years before any other culture arrived on Andrus.

When the Waer arrived on behalf of the Fae in their search for a suitable home they began to record their memories and experiences. All these records are direct memories from individual Waer observers preserved in lorestones.

The other, non-human, races on Andrus maintain their own records and traditions in various forms. Depending on the level of civilization the quality and quantity of historical records varies.

Human histories began on Andrus as scrolls and books filled with all manner of records by the scholarly Ustara. They retain much of these early records but each Ekhari city maintains a library of some size to retain more recent histories, ancestry and transaction records.

  • How widely known are these stories?

No other culture knows about the Waer records. Most other historical records are through oral traditions and early glyphs. The most reliable histories other than the Waer are the Fae who inhabited Andrus well before other cultures. Most of the Fae records are books and scrolls written in the various tribal dialects. Fae historical records always tend to favor the Fae point of view.

  • Do average people believe old tales, or do they dismiss some that have a basis in fact?

The last couple thousand years are fairly well documented and most cultures feel they have a solid grasp of the historical facts. As with all things, memories and tales tend to get muddled with time so a story either gets more fantastic or it fades from memory all together.

Cultural Histories

  • How long have there been 'people' on this world?

Humans have been on Andrus for several thousand years now.

  • Did they evolve, were they created by the gods, or did they migrate from somewhere else?

Humans were brought to Andrus through the World Gate as slaves to a powerful race of conquerors.

  • If there are non-humans, how long have they been around and where did they come from?
  1. Lizardfolk seem to be the most likely aboriginal race on Andrus with no magical or otherworldly ties. With the rise of the faster breeding mammalian cultures their numbers and territories are dwindling.
  2. Nagaji were a servitor race created by the vile Naga Emperors. The Naga were defeated and the Nagaji have spread outside their masters control. They are an ancestral enemy of the lizardfolk due to disputed territory and subjugation during the reign of the Naga Emperors.
  3. Vishkanya are mortal offspring of Medusa. Vishkanya serve their mistresses will whether they realize it or not.
  4. Tauran culture was transplanted much like the Humans. Many still serve an unknown, other worldly power.
  5. Fae are a displaced race that has spent millennium as servants to powerful elemental beings. They enlisted the help of the Waer Wayfarers to find a suitable world to call home.
  6. Waer arrived on Andrus while searching for a new Fae home world. Some have decided to remain on Andrus and observe the development of a new world helping in times of need.

  1. Civilization on Andrus seems to have begun on both continents around the same time.

The Naga Empire rose on Upper Andrus about the same time as the Lizardfolk were taming the north western jungles of Lower Andrus. The Bast'et hunted the plains of Upper Andrus and the Vishkanya began building their sparkling cities on the north eastern coast of Lower Andrus very soon after.

  1. Lizardfolk built a colonization fleet and sent it to Upper Andrus in an attempt to spread their influence. The Vishkanya established an enclave in Upper Andrus after the Naga Empire had swallowed the continent.
  2. Dark Magic was at the heart of the Naga Empire and provided them the edge needed to create the Nagaji and subjugate the other cultures.
